Pumpkins can easily be mistaken for toys when Gus is around, as his mom only has to hold one up and ask what he thinks before the Golden Retriever mix takes a few steps back, jumps up, and tries to grab it. His mom, who runs the Instagram account @gussythegoofygolden, has to remind him that it is not a toy, although Gus clearly disagrees.
Golden Retriever mix enjoys the pumpkin but is less impressed by scary Halloween decor
Gus has already made his seasonal preferences pretty clear, and it all starts with mom holding a pumpkin in front of him. “What do you think?” Gus takes a couple of steps back, then suddenly jumps up and tries to grab it. Mom retreats, laughing. “No, it’s not a toy.” Gus sits down.
Later, three pumpkins are sitting on the grass, and Gus is lying next to them. He has one of the stems in his mouth. “No, Gussy, hey, they’re not toys,” mom tells him.
That rule becomes harder to enforce when he finds a smaller pumpkin. He walks down the hallway with it in his mouth, only to hear mom coming after him. But Gus only speeds up his pace. “Gussy, drop it, drop it,” mom calls out after him. Eventually, he does.
Another clip shows Gus playing with a small pumpkin on the floor. He rolls it around and chases after it with his tail wagging. At one point, he lies down with it and goes back to chewing the stem. Viewers had plenty of thoughts. “If pumpkin not ball, why ball shaped?” one asked.
Then come the Halloween decorations. On a walk, he spots a tombstone outside someone’s house. He stretches his front end toward it for a cautious sniff while keeping his feet planted firmly behind him. Then, suddenly, he barks and backs away. Mom laughs and says, “Gussy, it’s okay.”
