Earning a foster dog’s trust is a major achievement, and this adorable Instagram video from @allthefosterpups shows a foster dad doing just that. The video features a foster dog, Fresh, as the on-screen text says, “watch my foster dog start trusting my husband for the first time,” and there it is, a dad earning a scared dog’s trust gently and slowly. She even lets him pet her and give her belly rubs, and what could be better than that?
Video shows dog slowly starting to trust foster dad enough to let him pet her
In the video, the foster dog comes to trust her dad, and the caption explains that it did not happen overnight, explaining that Fresh “was too scared of dog dad to go near him at first,” and that it took “a couple days for her to feel safe enough to let him get close.” Moreover, the caption revealed that she watched their resident dogs accept affection from him, “got curious and finally let him pet her.” And finally, “suddenly she was all in, giving love right back.”
Fresh starts out tense as her eyes appear cautious. The foster dad keeps his distance, lowering himself to her level and speaking softly as she stretches, remarking, “Big stretch!” and asking, How are you?” as he lets her take in his presence without pressure.
When Fresh yawns, he gently asks permission to let him pet her as Fresh stays put — and then he reaches in slowly and pets her. He even rewards her with calm praise, saying, “Good girl. Yes.”
Then Fresh rolls onto her back and offers her belly — the ultimate sign of trust in the whole video. Dad does not rush it. He rubs her belly and talks to her like they have known each other for years, asking, “Wow, are we best friends? Yes,” seemingly stunned by how fast she went all-in.
The clip ends with Fresh doing the sweetest thing possible as she brings her face close and gives dad a gentle lick. In the end, this dog may be a foster, and she may have taken her sweet time to open up, but seeing her trust her dad was the sweetest part of the video.
