Pearl does not seem convinced that Violet should be getting all the attention right now. Mom is sitting on the living room floor with her grooming supplies beside her, brushing Violet while Pearl hangs around close enough to keep tabs on everything. The Golden Retriever starts by sitting beside them, then leans in to sniff Mom’s face.
She puts a paw on Mom’s free hand, sits back down, and even gives her head a little shake. For a second, it looks like Pearl might actually wait her turn. Then she moves closer again. The video from @pearlthegoldenpup captures the whole thing while Mom tries to brush Violet and laugh at Pearl at the same time.
Two Golden Retriever sisters compete for their mom’s attention during brushing time
Violet is sitting there being a good girl while Mom works the brush through her fur. Pearl has other plans. She starts beside them, watching her owner’s every move. Then she sits. Then comes the face sniff, because apparently getting in Mom’s face is necessary when a sister is getting brushed. Mom keeps going, but then Pearl puts a paw on her free hand.
She sits again and gives her head a little shake, almost as if she’s trying very hard to behave. It doesn’t last. A moment later, she is leaning into Mom again, getting right up to her face while Violet continues enjoying her brushing. Mom is laughing the whole time.
The text on the video says, “When you’re brushing one dog, and the other gets jealous,” and Pearl really does look like she is trying to make sure her turn isn’t being forgotten. The caption gives a little more context, too. Their owner says the two are “always scrambling to be the first to get brushed.” It’s also the same story when it comes to brushing their teeth.
So Pearl isn’t necessarily upset that Violet is getting attention. She just wants some of that attention for herself. And she seems perfectly willing to keep reminding Mom until she gets it. One viewer said that the sisters love it enough to “fight for it. Another said, “The more Mom touches them, the better!”
“FOMO Pearl” might be the shortest explanation of all. With two Golden Retriever sisters this enthusiastic about grooming, Mom may have to start scheduling individual appointments.
