Brumby has a pony standing over him, nibbling his fur, and apparently sees absolutely no reason to move. The Golden Retriever is lying on the grass with his toy when Biscuit wanders over and starts investigating him from head to tail.
In the @brumbythegolden video, their mom immediately tells Brumby to stop letting the pony bite him, but the pup barely looks bothered. Biscuit keeps going, moving from his head to his back and eventually his jowls. Brumby could simply get up and walk away. Instead, he stays put, even lifting a leg when Biscuit investigates his belly.
Golden Retriever stays relaxed while Biscuit the pony nibbles at him
Their mom walks outside and finds Biscuit standing over the Golden Retriever puppy, casually nibbling at his fur. She immediately calls out, “Brumby, don’t let him do that.” Biscuit stops for a second. Brumby looks toward their mom, too, but there is no rush to get up.
The pony goes right back to investigating him, first around his head and neck, then down his back. The text on the screen sums up their mom’s frustration nicely: “Brumby… STAND UP FOR YOURSELF.”
But Brumby stays exactly where he is. Biscuit sniffs around his belly next, and the pup even lifts his leg to make room. At that point, their mom is clearly running out of things to say. The pony eventually reaches Brumby’s face and starts nibbling at his jowls, prompting another, much firmer, “Ah, Bikki.”
Then comes the question that everyone watching is probably thinking: “Why does he just let him do that?” The caption explains the situation better. Their mom says she is in the background begging Brumby to show “even the tiniest bit of self preservation,” while Brumby’s apparent response is simply, “Nah we’re good.” The video has picked up more than 5,000 likes.
Viewers had their own explanations about the Golden Retriever’s lenient behavior towards the pony. One joked that Brumby is “the passive one in this relationship.” Another suggested Brumby might simply enjoy the rough attention. The friendship is clearly entertaining to watch, but their mom has a point about giving Brumby some space when he needs it.
