Cactus loves having Cowboy stay tucked under his arm, and this video is proof. The two are curled up together in Cactus’s donut bed, already getting sleepy when Michael starts filming them. The rescue dog has one arm wrapped around the tiny puppy, who is happily wedged against his neck. The account @cactustherescue catches the sleepy exchange, and it gets even cuter when Cowboy eventually gets nudged back into position for another cuddle. The text says, “My dog thinks new rescue puppy is his baby,” which feels especially fitting for these two.

Michael starts filming and asks, “What are you doing?” Both dogs look up from their tangled position. Cactus keeps his arm around Cowboy, and when Michael points it out, he just smacks his lips a couple of times. Cowboy seems less interested in the conversation. He drops his head straight back into the crook of Cactus’s neck.
Soon, both dogs are getting drowsy. Cactus’s eyes grow heavier, while Cowboy stays tucked against him. Then Cactus shifts his body a little closer, settles his chin on the bed’s bolster, and starts drifting off. Cowboy is still awake, though. So Cactus lifts his head and gives him a gentle nudge. Cowboy seems to understand immediately. He nuzzles closer, settles down, and puts one tiny paw on Cactus’s shoulder before falling asleep.
It’s an especially lovely moment considering how Cowboy ended up there. Michael had been fostering Cowboy’s mother and her puppies. His mom later went to another foster while she received heartworm treatment, and Cowboy’s siblings were adopted. Cowboy stayed with Michael and Cactus, and eventually Michael adopted him.
The video has pulled in more than 212,000 likes, and viewers clearly have a lot of feelings about this particular brotherly arrangement. One commenter said Cactus is not a step-dad but “the dad that stepped up,” while another made sure to credit Honey, Cowboy’s mom, for everything she went through to bring her puppies into the world.
And now this rescue puppy has Cactus nearby for the quieter parts of growing up. The dog cuddles him, checks that he is close, and asks for snuggles without abandon.
