At only around five days old, the babies needed their mother and round-the-clock care, making their situation particularly urgent. Thankfully, the family soon had a reason to feel safe again when a rescue stepped in.
Mama shelter dog knows she and her babies can continue being a family after rescue
Rescuers gave a mama dog and her five newborn babies a fresh start after saving them from the Palmdale Animal Care Center in Los Angeles. A video shared by @rita_earl_blackwell shows the family leaving the shelter together after Foxy and the Hounds stepped in to help.
The mother had reportedly arrived at the shelter as a stray with her five babies. The puppies were believed to be only around five days old. As such, they were still at an extremely delicate stage and needed their mother as well as round-the-clock care.
Having a nursing mother and five newborns at a busy shelter can put additional pressure on an already stretched facility. The family needed somewhere they could receive consistent attention while the puppies continued to grow. Fortunately, another organization was ready to help.
Foxy and the Hounds came to the shelter to rescue the family, ensuring the mother and her babies could leave together. The rescue was especially important for the puppies, who were far too young to be separated from their mother.
In the video, the mama dog is seen meeting the rescuer who has arrived to take her and her puppies. She appears to be a mixed-breed dog who is warm during the encounter, as though she senses that the situation is about to change for the better.
The creator also used the post to thank Foxy and the Hounds for responding to the shelter’s need. In the caption, they encouraged viewers to show their appreciation for the rescue organization. At the same time, they drew attention to the large number of dogs that continue to need help in Los Angeles shelters.
