Checking on a sleeping puppy in the middle of the night should be a quick and reassuring task. For Clover’s mom, however, one late-night camera check came with a little surprise. The Cocker Spaniel puppy was awake at 1 a.m., and after a big yawn, she turned directly toward the camera and simply stared. Suddenly, the question was no longer whether Clover was sleeping, but whether her mom should find the scene cute or creepy.

Cocker Spaniel puppy Clover gave her mom a surprise and a fright when her sleep camera caught her awake at around 1 a.m. A video shared on @tessathehairyborder shows the pup having a quiet but oddly intense moment in the middle of the night.
Clover’s mom had apparently installed the camera to keep an eye on her while she slept. When she woke up during the night and checked on her, though, the footage showed that Clover was not quite as asleep as expected.
In the night-vision clip, the pup can be seen awake in the darkness before letting out a huge yawn. The sleepy moment seems harmless enough, but things quickly take an amusing turn. Instead of settling back down, Clover looks directly at the camera and holds an intense stare into the lens.
Because of the darkness and the greenish night-vision effect, the puppy’s expression looks much more serious than it probably was. Her unwavering gaze makes it seem as though she is fully aware that someone is watching her.
Text over the video reads, “POV: You bought a camera to monitor your puppy sleeping but it just catches her staring into its soul at 1am.” Her mom seemed just as unsure how to interpret the scene, captioning the post, “Don’t know whether to find it creepy or cute.”
Viewers had plenty of theories about what might have been going through the puppy’s mind at that hour. One person joked, “I know you are in there somewhere.” Another imagined Clover speaking directly to her mom, writing, “Do you see me mother? Because I see you.”
Others focused on the dramatic eye contact. “Ultimate stare down,” one commenter wrote. Another offered a more practical explanation for Clover being awake at such an unusual hour. They noted, “She probably had to use the bathroom.”
