Being a shelter dog has not stopped Pluto from finding ways to make himself useful. The six-year-old pup recently got out of his kennel before opening time and promptly began exploring the Humane Society of Broward County. From the corridors to the different rooms, he appeared determined to inspect everything in sight. The shelter dog’s unofficial “Paw Patrol” duties made for an adorable video, while also drawing attention to his search for a permanent home.
Shelter dog takes his ‘paw patrol’ job seriously after previous owners surrendered him
Pluto has spent nearly two months at the Humane Society of Broward County. However, a recent morning gave the six-year-old dog a chance to step outside his kennel and take on a rather important responsibility.
A video shared by @humanebroward shows a volunteer opening Pluto’s kennel as he gets ready for his turn at what the shelter calls “Paw Patrol.” As soon as the door opens, Pluto heads out to explore the building, moving through the corridors and checking out different rooms. “It’s Pluto’s turn for Paw Patrol,” the text on the video reads as the dog begins his rounds.
Pluto appears to take the assignment seriously. He wanders through the shelter as though he has been asked to make sure everything is in order. The shelter explained that he joined its staff before the doors opened to visitors, giving him the opportunity to investigate the building while preparations were underway.
As Pluto makes his way around, another message appears on screen: “Pluto is ready to patrol his own home.” The line captures what staff members are hoping for. That’s because Pluto’s current stay at the shelter was never supposed to be his permanent situation.
Pluto had been with the same family since he was a puppy, according to the post’s caption. After six years of his life, however, his owners recently surrendered him because “caring for a dog became too much responsibility.” Still, the shelter says he continues to be a happy and affectionate dog who “loves people.”
The shelter believes Pluto would be happiest as the only pet, so he can enjoy all the love and attention. “In return, he’ll be a loyal best friend who will happily patrol the house,” the caption adds.
By the end of the video, Pluto is back in his kennel after completing his patrol. The staff now hopes the next door he gets to walk through will be the one to his forever home.
