A Golden Retriever has melted hearts online after appearing genuinely heartbroken when a toddler referred to him simply as a “dog” instead of by his name. While canines do not understand language in the same way humans do, they are remarkably good at recognizing familiar words, especially their own names. So, when this little one didn’t call him by his name, the adorable pup looked visibly offended, as if he had taken the comment straight to his heart.
Golden Retriever looks heartbroken after toddler calls him dog, then finds comfort in human
This toddler didn’t call her Golden Retriever by his name and instead referred to him simply as a “dog,” leaving him heartbroken. The clip, shared by @cooper.thegoldenboy on Instagram, received plenty of love from viewers online. As the video begins, the toddler is sitting with her dad while Cooper is beside them. It is clear they are enjoying a fun family moment together.
The dad first asks his daughter to say “dada,” and the little one enthusiastically repeats it. He then asks her to say “mama,” and she happily does the same. Next, he asks if she can say “Bobo,” and she repeats that too.
However, when he asks her to say “Cooper,” she pauses for a moment. Meanwhile, Cooper gently extends his paw, almost as if he is trying to help the little girl remember his name. However, instead of saying “Cooper,” she simply says, “dog.”
The dad quickly corrects her, saying, “No, not dog, Cooper.” The little one, however, is completely unbothered and wanders over to her mom, happily continuing to play.
Cooper, on the other hand, looks visibly disappointed, making the video both wholesome and hilarious. He slowly rests his head on the sofa, as though trying to tell everyone that his feelings have been hurt. Seeing his reaction, the dad immediately starts scratching the pup’s head affectionately while reassuring him, “Your name is Cooper.”
