A video from @goldenduonz on Instagram shows two Golden Retrievers, Kronk and Yzma, sitting on a staircase and staring down at their mom and her friends like disappointed hall monitors. The setup comes through in the on-screen caption that explains how mom always tells them, “please be quiet, don’t bark.” But “when her friends come over,” everything changes.

Golden Retrievers reacts to mom being super ‘loud’ with friends in funniest way

The Golden Retrievers in the video stare at their mom and her friends with really unimpressed expressions — they seem like they do not want to sit there, but they have no choice but to witness the hypocrisy. Meanwhile, the caption echoes their inner voices with, “They are so loud.”

Viewers related to the dogs’ judgment. Several comments pointed to the same thing, noting how the dogs looked personally offended, as one wrote, “They are not impressed.” Another added, “They are judging hard.”

Much like these Golden Retrievers, dogs pay close attention to patterns and tone, and they can tell when the normal routine changes. When the house fills up with excited voices and movement, many dogs either join the party or take the role of confused observer — but in this case, Kronk and Yzma chose to disapprove silently from the higher ground.

The behavior makes sense for two dogs who probably hear “don’t bark” on repeat, because dogs learn rules through repetition, and they notice when humans enforce one standard for them and a different one for themselves. Kronk and Yzma may not understand the details of the conversation, but they understand volume and energy, and they seem to know that their mom is being hypocritical.

Though the video just shows a normal night — mom’s friends stopping by and getting a little loud — thanks to two Golden Retrievers, the scene becomes hilarious.
